My Story

Marlon Lindsay
To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.

William Shakespeare

My Story
"Reminder to Self has helped me to build a framework for living a life in spirit. A life that is centered around self-love, which is the same as love for others, which is the same as love for the earth, which is the same as love for God."

I was born in Seven Miles, a small town outside of Kingston, Jamaica. By anyone’s standards we were poor in material stuff but rich in spirit. I have lived a good life but life sort of just happened to me. Or did it?

Before finding my gift as an author and teacher, I did a great many things for work. After my time in Corporate America, I co-founded and was President & CEO of a mortgage company for nine years before that came to an end in 2006. Since then, I have served as publisher of a magazine educating first time homebuyers on the process of achieving the American Dream. I hold a masters degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut with additional training in finance and leadership from Columbia and Wharton business schools.

In 1990, I read Think And Grow Rich by Dennis Kimbro and wondered why I had never been exposed to the secrets of success earlier. As a result, I made a silent commitment to motivate students at the high school and college levels after I made my millions.

I went back to the University of Connecticut for a Masters degree in 1993. While there, I had a powerful spiritual awakening where profound questions about God, the universe, and the purpose of my life surfaced. I was terrified. I suppressed those thoughts for ten years before they resurfaced.

In 2005, I met my life partner and found a deeper meaning to living, gave up chasing the millions, and chose to live a deliberate life. I was getting ready to pursue a doctorate then confusion sat in. The doctorate wasn't in my heart. The work that I came here to do was already revealed to me. One morning after prayer and meditation I was inspired to write the precepts of my life, Reminder To Self. It came to me fast and it came to me complete. It is the foundation of my work and my upcoming book so titled.
I am now fulfilling that silent commitment but instead of trying to motivate, I have discovered that while we can be inspired externally, true motivation comes from within.

The people I am fortunate enough to teach, teach me; each one teach one. The more time I spend with these basic principles, the more I understand them. The more I understand them, the more  I live them. I am not there yet, but each day, in many ways, I get closer.
